The YMCA is continuing its exciting and ambitious development of our youth and community activities, ensuring that our various services work in an integrated and responsive way.  

Our youth and community activities are themed by general youth work, project-based, mobile and mentoring.  The YMCA aims to ensure that each young person can progress between our specialisms in each location and, where possible, each neighbourhood.

Reporting to the Youth Work Manager, the Lead Youth Worker is responsible for delivery and coordination of a range of outreach and centre based youth work with young people aged 11-25 years and in line with the YMCA Youth Work Strategy and Principles. 

The activities will include up to 4 evening sessions a week, occasional weekends and daytime during holidays.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Youth Work and ideally a JNC recognised qualification
  • Experience of leading and managing a team in a youth work setting
  • Experience of working with young people from different backgrounds, providing a range of activities and support
  • Knowledge of the potential barriers that young people face
  • Experience of collaborative working with others (colleagues and other agencies)
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Practice and risk assessments within a relevant environment
  • First Aid at Work Qualification or willing to undertake a qualification
  • Child Protection/Safeguarding Level 2 or equivalent
  • Full driving license and a D1 classification for minibus driving

Location: One YMCA, Welwyn, Hatfield, Stevenage & High Wycombe (+ frequent travel within & around Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire)
Hours: 37.5
Salary: £24,612 per annum
