Hardwick Evangelical Church is a community-based church affiliated to the Eastern Baptist Association. 

Title of the post: Children and Families Worker

Hours: 16 to 24 hours per week (2 to 3 days per week)

Salary range : 21K – 25K per annum pro rata depending on experience

Length of contract: Two years (with possibility of extending)

Supervision: By Co-Ministers. Reporting to HEC leadership and church meetings to provide updates.

Expenses: To be claimed via Hardwick Evangelical Church treasurer.


Overall Aim of this post:

We are looking for someone to lead and develop the children’s and families work at Hardwick Evangelical Church, encouraging the children and families to explore and grow in their Christian faith and become true disciples of Jesus, able to share their faith with confidence.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • To develop the church children’s and families work, including outreach to the village community
  • To co-ordinate and facilitate the children’s groups on Sunday mornings
  • To lead a team to plan all-age services
  • To undertake administration, communication, networking and publicity as required for the children’s and families work
  • To develop outreach initiatives in the community to families
  • To build on the existing good relationships with the local primary and pre- schools
  • To attend Hardwick Evangelical Church staff meetings and/or leadership team meetings in arrangement with the leadership team
  • To attend supervision meetings with Co-ministers when required

The children and families worker will be expected to attend Hardwick Evangelical Church. 

Person Specification


  • Christian commitment
  • Experience in children’s and families work
  • Good communication skills with children and adults: 1-to-1, small group and large groups
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the needs of children and families
  • Ability to work as part of a team and under their own initiative
  • Good sense of humour
  • Clear leadership ability / experience of leading a team
  • Ability to think outside the box and willingness to be flexible
  • Understanding of the needs of children with additional needs


  • Driver
  • Experience in organising events
  • Relevant qualifications / training, willingness to pursue ongoing professional development
