Just Homes charity are looking for a committed, enthusiastic Housing Properties and Safety Officer to join their team that provides help to homeless people in London to rebuild their lives.
Just Homes work with unemployed men who can access state benefits in 48 rooms spread across four sites and with vulnerable women and children who do not qualify for state benefits in 12 rooms spread across three houses.
First Fruit is the holding charity for Just Homes and also delivers the social enterprises providing skills opportunities for residents. They are Christian Charities which are non-denominational and inclusive, which serve people of all faiths and none with respect.
The job role has two main aspects:
o to be responsible for the maintenance of the properties, managing Health and Safety aspects and complying with Houses in Multiple Occupancy requirements – approximately 2.5 days per week.
o to work as part of the team, providing support to clients on the men’s side of the project and ensure the smooth running of the men’s hostels – approximately 2.5 days per week.
On the properties and Safety aspect of the post, the postholder will be responsible for the fabric of the various buildings managed by Just Homes and the First Fruit group of charities. The post holder will identify various repair needs and oversee both reactive and planned maintenance of the building. The postholder will also provide support to the various Just Homes’ hostels and First Fruit projects, ensuring that all of them have up-to-date and adequate health and safety compliance, certification and insurance. The post holder will have a keen eye for detail and monitor and document utility supplies and other maintenance bills.
On the support and Housing management aspect, the postholder will work as part of a team to ensure smooth day to day running of the projects. You will meet with clients and deliver support as may be necessary.
We will be expecting the candidate to have experience and knowledge of Health and safety aspect of the role, however we are willing to provide necessary training on client support and related management.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is willing to work with the extremely marginalized within the community and be passionate about making a difference in their lives. You will be organized and able to work independently, but also support the small team in delivering excellent support to our clients. The successful applicant would be expected to, at times perform some minor repairs and handy-man duties where required, and be fit, healthy and have a flexible approach to working.
Experience with or an interest in learning about health and safety is also essential as this role will be responsible for risk assessments, training, and ensuring our sites are compliant with all new health and safety legislation.
This is a Full time, Permanent role, working 40 hours per week, with a £29,000 per annum salary.
The post is based at the Just Homes Charity office, rear of 34 Norwich Road, Forest Gate, E7 9JH and involves working at all our other properties. You will be responsible to the Chief Executive Officer however we also operate a role-based group management and supervision system within the charity based on areas of responsibility.
