We are seeking two Community Engagement Advisers to work in two of our Archdeaconry’s (Bromley and Bexley, with a focus on the Common Good; & Tonbridge with a focus on Rural Ministry) to provide support and enable churches to work collaboratively within their communities, co-create new community action work/initiatives and to increase levels of community engagement and social action.

Applicants must have hands-on experience of planning, leading, managing and co-creating community engagement initiatives, a proven pioneer with a heart and passion to help others reimagine community and grow authentic disciples. You must have proven experience of working in urban/commuter or rural communities depending on the post, a track record of being able to start a new project, build teams and secure funding for projects, with an understanding of, and vision for, the flourishing of the Churches presence in and service to, our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

-   Support parishes and partnerships within the Archdeaconry to plan and deliver Community Engagement initiatives for the common good and engage with diocesan campaigns and national initiatives.

-   Develop useful relationships with statutory and third sector agencies, local support groups and other key stakeholders, and build and maintain positive relationships with the Archdeacon, clergy and lay leaders in the diocese.

-   Discover, map and promote parishes already delivering innovative or effective projects and existing initiatives in the community.

-   Make presentations and deliver training to clergy, lay ministers and volunteers. Candidates must be capable of delivering the vision for the flourishing of the Churches presence in and service to, our communities; education to degree level is preferable (but not essential).

You must have excellent communication and organisation skills and can demonstrate success in planning and managing projects.

The role will require candidates to travel throughout the Archdeaconry, and occasionally the diocese, often in the evenings and at weekends. The post holder will, at times, be the public face of the Diocese, it is considered that there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for the postholder to be a communicant member of the Church of England, or of a Church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church of the Evangelical Alliance. These posts are for 3 days per week.
